He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever.
Psalm 111:5
This sounds like such a simple thing, such a basic idea, and not particularly spiritual: God promises, as a part of His covenant, to provide actual food, groceries, for those who fear Him.
But we all have to eat, and it’s such a basic human need that touches every person. Having lived through times of not knowing from where we would be fed, either because I was out of work or wasn’t earning enough to cover all the bills that were due and still buy food, we have learned how important it is to know that our Heavenly Father will keep this promise.
And so the Lord Jesus taught us, “…your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” and “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” And He taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.”
God wants me to fear, love, and trust in Him even for my most basic needs. He wants me to know that He really is my Father in Heaven and I am really His own beloved child.
Father, thank You for declaring me Your own child, for forgiving all my faults as a loving Father does, and for taking care of me in the most basic and needful ways. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for bringing me into this unshakable relationship. Amen!
