Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in His holy habitation.
God settles the solitary in a home; He leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Psalm 68:5-6
We hear a lot about the troubles of children who grow up without a Dad. A much higher incidence of incarceration, drug addiction, gang activity, and the list goes on.
But here’s some good news that the world never considers. They don’t know that God calls Himself the Father of the Fatherless and the Protector of Widows. He has a special place in His heart for single moms, and for kids with absentee fathers.
He puts the lonely into a loving family; He provides them with a home (not just a house). He watches out for them in a special way, too.
He specializes in the redemption of ex-cons, too! Did you see that? The world looks at them with suspicion; many companies won’t hire them, most landlords won’t rent them a house, but God “leads prisoners out into prosperity.”
There is just this one little detail that the world misses, and of course doesn’t want to hear. Everything that we receive from God, we receive by faith. We have to trust Him and follow Him, meeting life’s challenges His way. As we do that, we find that all of His promises become ours. The last part of this verse makes it clear: “but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.”
Lord, thank You for Your father’s heart. Thank You for putting us in homes and families, and leading us, in spite of the world’s expectations, into Your good and loving plan, step by step,. You are my Salvation! Amen!
