I remember Your name in the night, O Lord, and keep Your Law.
Psalm 119:55
In the dark of the night, when I lie awake and no one sees me, where does my mind go? What occupies my thoughts?
I can concentrate on the mean things people did to me during the day, or fret about how I’m going to pay my bills with no money, worry about the future or about my children. I can think sinful thoughts or plot revenge.
Or I can remember whose I am. I can remember that I have a Father in heaven who loves and cares for me. I can take all these other thoughts that come flooding in and lift them up to Him in prayer. And I can resolve again that whatever comes, I will handle it God’s way, follow His Laws, live by His commands, because I’ve been forgiven, saved, redeemed, delivered, and accepted into His loving care.
Lord Jesus, as I lie awake, as thoughts fill my mind, be my Lord in the night. Remind me of Your redeeming grace and fill me with a fresh commitment to You, to Your ways and to the life You have planned for me. Amen!
