Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Saturday 7/19/2025 Devotional

If the Lord Jesus needed time alone with His Father in prayer, how can I imagine that I don’t need it as well? If He didn’t strictly need it, but sought it out simply because He wanted it, shouldn’t my heart crave that kind of relationship with my Father in heaven?

Getting up before dawn to spend time alone in prayer takes real commitment. In fact, the only times I’ve done that have been when there was something really heavy pressing on me; a major decision I had to make or a  major need that I knew only God could supply.

Spending any amount of time in prayer, at any time of day, pays off in big dividends. I learn more in a half an hour of prayer than in two days of study. In the middle of the night I may wake up and pray, and suddenly what I’ve been stewing over all becomes clear.

Get some time alone with God. Worship Him. Sing to Him. Ask Him your questions, or just sit in His presence and listen.

Lord, I don’t get enough time alone with You. I find myself distracted with so many things, even good things, but You said it best, “Only this one thing is needful.” Prepare my heart to seek Your face, Lord. Amen.
