But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.”
Matthew 22:29
The Lord Jesus argued with the Pharisees. They believed the Bible and took it seriously, but they sought to escape the call to true repentance by keeping religious rules. They asked Him questions and He answered them from Scripture. His answers often astonished them. He asked them questions, too, which they were often left unable to answer, because His questions penetrated through all their fine reasoning, cutting right to the heart.
But with the Sadducees, who had decided the Bible was wrong because it disagreed with what they believed, it seems that He didn’t waste His time.
Even as He argued with the Pharisees, there was respect and serious dialogue, but there was no common ground for discussion with those who rejected God’s Word.
Lord, help me to love Your Word and take it seriously, respectfully, to heart. Correct me where I’m wrong and open my eyes to understand and apply it right, in my life. Amen.
