Knowing that God has promised to provide for my needs frees me up to be generous. If I spend (or give away) what He gives me in a way that pleases Him, my rich Dad isn’t going to let me starve. When He sees what I’ve done with His provision He’ll say, “Good job, Kid! That’s what I would have done!”
On the other hand, if I am focused on building my bank account because I don’t trust my Father in heaven to take care of me, I’m on my own, by my own choice. As I approach my “golden years,” this reality looms large in my mind. He isn’t going to abandon me when I can’t work any longer.
I want to live and handle my money in a way that will make my Father say, “Well done! I approve of that.” That’s what it means to lay up treasure in heaven.
Father, give me a heart that truly trusts in You. Amen.
