And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
James 3:18
For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!
Luke 2:14
Jesus, Prince of Peace! I’ve heard quite a few people ask recently, “Wasn’t the Messiah supposed to bring peace to earth? Why is there still no peace on earth, if the Prince of Peace has come?”
Yes, He was. And yes, He did. But it wasn’t the peace that so many expected: a political or social peace among men.
Trusting in Jesus as Savior and Lord brings the peace of reconciliation with God to my heart as I find His forgiveness, and I have enduring peace as I continue to follow Him, discovering His plan and purpose in my life.
But that doesn’t bring peace to people who choose to not follow Him, and in fact it creates conflict between us who follow and those who reject Him. When they reject Him they reject us, too, opposing God’s purpose in their own life and our lives. Conflict arises.
The Lord Jesus Himself said, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.”
Matthew 10:34-36
Following Jesus brings peace, and creates conflict. The kingdom of God has invaded the territory held by Satan and his kingdom of darkness, and you and I become part of the invading force as we follow Him. We’re here to set captives free and overturn the devil’s plans for mankind, one soul at a time.
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, thank You for bringing peace to my heart. Thank You for filling my life with peace that surpasses understanding. Thank You for keeping me safe in this great conflict and the chaos that surrounds me. Lord, fulfill Your purpose in me, today. Amen.
