When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty; walk before Me, and be blameless, that I may make My covenant between Me and you, and may multiply you greatly."
Genesis 17:1-2
“Walk before Me,” God said; “Be Blameless.”
To walk in the presence of God, aware that He’s watching me, seeking to please Him, hiding nothing from Him, is the basic requirement if I’m going to live in a covenant relationship with Him.
To be blameless, I have to keep short accounts with God. I have to confess and forsake the sinful habits and the plans I make to keep them.
As a man of flesh and blood there’s no way that I can do these things perfectly; God knows this. But as with Abraham, He offers to make His covenant with me; He isn’t asking me to make, establish, or earn a covenant with Him.
It’s on His terms and by His initiative. The sacrifice that makes this possible in His. The blood that was shed to make this covenant was His own. I’m called to walk before Him in that covenant and be blameless.
Lord, You know my shortcomings and how far I fall short of perfection, yet You offer me Your covenant. Lord Jesus, keep me walking on the right path before You, and keep me in this relationship: blameless, forgiven, Yours. Amen.
