Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness.
If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.
Luke 11:34-36
The Lord Jesus tells us to be careful what we let into our hearts, especially through our eyes. What do I look at What is my source of entertainment? Where do I get my information? To where do I look for counsel in life’s decisions?
“Be careful lest the “light” in you be darkness,” He said.
Any military operation depends on the accuracy of its intelligence both for targeting and for keeping its own troops alive. Not knowing where your enemies are leaves you thrashing out blindly, wasting energy and resources and doing terrible harm instead of leading to victory. False intel leads to disaster; the intelligence network is the eyes.
We are fighting a spiritual battle with eternal consequences. How can I fight a spiritual battle without clear light and understanding? Where do I get good intel on such things?
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
(Psalm 119:105)
Lord, help me to fill my heart, my soul, my whole self with the pure light of Your Word, and with good understanding of it. Keep me from taking in the darkness of lies and confused opinions that surrounds me. Guide me through this battle with good intelligence, for Your sake, Lord Jesus! Amen.
