Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Monday 3/30/2026 Devotional

The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom is in them?
Jeremiah 8:9

There is wisdom in the world, no doubt. Pagan philosophers have written many important books and they have gotten some things very right. I’ve read them, and I love them. But there is an old saying in Spanish, “En mundo de ciegos el tuerto es rey.” (“In a world of blind men, the one-eyed man is king.”)

The wisdom of great thinkers is accurate only so long as it agrees with the Word of God. But when the wise men of this world turn their backs on God’s Word they immediately wander off into the darkness of human reason. In a very short time they begin spouting nonsense, and it’s not just harmless, but pernicious, damaging, destructive nonsense. It destroys people.

Read the Bible. Devour it. Fill your heart and your mind with the Word of God so that when you are faced with worldly wisdom-turned-into-harmful-nonsense, you’ll recognize it for what it is.

Lord God, Your Word is so far above human wisdom that it makes the wisest among us look foolish. Thank You for revealing it to us! Help me today to fill my thoughts, guide my feelings, and make my decisions by the light of Your Word, for Jesus’ sake. Amen!
