Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Sunday 12/7/2025 Devotional

For because He Himself has suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
Hebrews 2:18

If I got into the ring with the world heavyweight champion, I would never find out how really powerful he is, because I would probably last about three seconds. His first hit would knock me out, and the match would be over.

If I trained really hard and was at the peak of my best condition I might last longer. May three hits. Maybe even half of the first round, until he figured out my weak point and got in that one solid hit.

If I could go the whole fifteen rounds with him and still be on my feet, I would have a real understanding of how strong, how fast, and how really subtle he can be. I would also be bruised and bleeding.

The Lord Jesus took on our human nature. He was tempted in every way just as we are, but never sinned. He went a whole lifetime facing the same temptations that you and I face - and fall before - every day, and was still on His feet. He knows far better than you or I just how powerful, quick and subtle temptation can be.

So when I go to Him, confessing that I took another hit and went down again, He knows what I’m talking about. He’s felt those incoming temptations, too, and understands just how overwhelming they can be. He can also intercede with the Father on my behalf, because He knows very well what hit me.

He knows my human weakness and the enemy’s strength, and He can strengthen me in just the way that I need, for the next round.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:15-16

Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming a man to experience what I face. Thank You for standing strong and taking it. Thank You for understanding and forgiving, and for bringing me the strength that I need for today. Amen.
