Trouble and anguish have found me out, but Your commandments are my delight.
Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.
Psalm 119:143-144

When trouble and anguish find me, I struggle to understand how God’s purpose could possibly be served in what’s happening to me. I know the answer is in His Word, but my heart is so overwhelmed by what I’m suffering so that I can’t hear what He’s saying to me. What should I do?

The answer is here: keep listening! Delight myself in His Word. God’s testimonies, His own description of what He Himself has done and of what He is doing, are “righteous forever.” Eventually He will break through my clouds of pain and confusion, trouble and anguish, and give me understanding, and I will live, closer to Him than ever and in genuine peace.

Lord God, give me understanding, that I may live. Amen.
