Whoever hates Me hates My Father also.
John 15:23
We are often told that all religions are equally good, no matter what they believe or what concept they have of God. We’re told that all all religions are equal.
And yes, in a democracy all religions have equal standing before the law. That’s necessary, because we don’t want anyone to be able to force their religion on everybody else, not even if they happen to agree with us. History has shown us what terrible corruption sets in when “good” people claim a divine right to such absolute power.
And yes, a reverent fear of God is a good thing, even when our understanding of God is fuzzy. So In Step 3 of a “Twelve Step” program like AA, we encourage people to surrender the control of their lives ”to God, as you understand Him.”
When we come in our brokenness looking for God’s help, He doesn’t expect us to have all our religious dogma right; at that point all I need to know about God is that He’s the “higher power” than I am, and turn the control of my life to Him. He listens to my heart.
But make no mistake: because there is only one God, anyone who says he loves God but hates Jesus, doesn’t love God; he actually hates God.
On the other hand, the Lord Jesus also said, “…he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.””
John 14:21
Lord Jesus, I don’t understand it all but I know that You are my Savior, my Lord, and the one who gives me life. Thank You, Lord! Amen.
