Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Monday 4/27/2026 Devotional

He regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer.
Psalm 102:17

“Destitute” means abandoned, forsaken, without necessary resources; impoverished; completely lacking in what’s needed for the task at hand.

Do you feel that way?

It’s a good first step. When I realize that I don’t have what it takes to help myself, that my only hope to get through this is to get what I need from God, I begin to seek Him earnestly, seriously, wholeheartedly.

So long as I think I can actually do life by myself, I will see God merely as an auxiliary. I’ll think that I can take Him or leave Him. He’s a nice decoration to have in my life, He sort of dresses it up and makes me look good, but I don’t see Him as essential.

But when I finally get to the point where I realize that I’ve got nothing, I’m out of resources, then I turn to God, not just for “a little help” but for salvation.

And then I discover that He doesn’t despise the prayers of the destitute. He listens; He will always take them seriously.

Lord Jesus, bring me quickly to the point of realizing that I can’t do it alone, that I need You. Forgive my self-sufficiency and my pride, and hear my cry. Be my help and my Savior. I can’t do this myself. Amen.
