And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on Me, on Him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over Him, as one weeps over a firstborn.
Zechariah 12:10
Zechariah’s prophecies were very concise. They predicted among other things the Maccabean revolt and ultimate victory during the Greek empire, so his credentials are remarkably good.
This final prophecy in the book of Zechariah tells of a time when the people of Israel will realize that the Messiah came, and they missed Him, and they will turn, brokenhearted, to trust in Him.
It’s happening right now, but it’s not easy. In Israel they’re known as “Messianics,” and many despise them as traitors, so they hardly dare tell even their family about their faith. Zechariah spoke about that, too. “The land shall mourn, each family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself, and their wives by themselves; and all the families that are left, each by itself, and their wives by themselves.”
Zechariah 12:12-14
God’s Word is being fulfilled before our very eyes. All His promises will be kept; you can bet your life on it!
Lord, Your Word is true. Set me apart for Yourself, as I trust in You. Amen.
