Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness…”
1 Corinthians 3:18-19
God has allowed us to increase in knowledge and advance in science as the years go by. He has revealed new facets of His created realm to us, step by step through the centuries.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 1:16-17
As we read about the medical practices of two hundred years ago or even of a thousand years ago, we must be grateful that we live now. Even the advances in my own lifetime are astonishing. And the discoveries in metallurgics, hydraulics and aerodynamics - let alone electricity - are wonderful as we constantly find out new aspects of God’s creation.
At the same time, we have been allowed to run off in incredibly stupid directions as we try to describe what we have discovered while rejecting the very existence of God, who created it all. We find ourselves tied up in logical contradictions; we who think we’re so smart, so advanced, standing on our heads to explain away the obvious nature, power, and goodness of God while constantly digging deeper into the evidence of these things.
No wonder the Bible says, “He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.”
Psalm 2:4
Lord, forgive my attempts to live my life without taking Your wisdom into account. Help me to acknowledge Your gracious hand in everything that’s good, and to apply Your wisdom in every plan, every decision. Lead me, Lord, for Jesus’ sake, in every step that I take today. Amen.
