It is time for the Lord to act, for Your Law has been broken.
Therefore I love Your commandments above gold, above fine gold.
Therefore I consider all Your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.
Psalm 119:126-128
Knowing that I will stand before God to give an account of my life, and that at some point God will call me to account, whether in this life or after it, motivates me to get serious about knowing and living by His Law. It causes me to absolutely hate and despise all the twisted logic and confused excuses that are offered to justify disobedience, because they won’t cut any ice when I find myself there.
But knowing that my sins are all forgiven for Jesus’ sake frees me to cheerfully live in His way. The cramped fear and uncertainty that I haven’t done enough is gone, and I can come into His presence with confidence.
But it’s a humble confidence in His forgiveness, not the cocky confidence that would result from a deluded sense of self-righteousness. I know I’ve fallen short in many ways, but I know I’m forgiven for Jesus’ sake. What peace there is, knowing this!
Lord Jesus, thank You for the forgiveness that gives me confidence in Your presence. Thank You for graciously receiving me in spite of all my imperfection. Thank You for calling me to a better life, now and forever. Amen!
