He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:5-6
Jesus lived life as a perfect man, showing us how to live in complete dependence on our Father in heaven. He taught us, explaining what He meant by the Scriptures He caused His prophets to write through the centuries. He did countless miracles, healings, and works of power that subtly revealed who He really was, to anyone who was willing to listen and believe.
Finally, He fulfilled His ultimate purpose in coming to earth. He made Himself the atoning sacrifice that reconciles us to God. Taking all our guilt on Himself, He suffered in our place so that we could be forgiven.
He never forced anyone to believe Him or accept what He said. To this day, He still follows that same policy; you can take it or leave it. You can accept and believe Him or you can go your own way. Nobody will force you to surrender to Jesus. You choose.
But the option is there for you: the reconciliation, the forgiveness, the new life that He can give you. He calls us to repent from our sinful ways and receive His offer of redemption.
Some day that will all change. There is a day of judgment coming, but until then the offer is still good, and for you. Make the right choice!
Lord Jesus, I agree with You that my selfish way of living does terrible harm to myself and everyone around me. Thank You for taking my guilt on Yourself, and redeeming me by your suffering on the cross.
I’ll take Your offer. Forgive me, restore me to the purpose You had in creating me, and take me as one of Yours. You’re my Lord from now on; show me the way, step by step.
Amen.
