Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, "You will not call to account"?
But You do see, for You note mischief and vexation, that You may take it into Your hands; to You the helpless commits himself; You have been the Helper of the fatherless.
Psalm 10:13-14
God doesn’t immediately call us to account for our sin; He withholds His hand, giving us time to repent. But when we harden our hearts and persist in sinful behavior, the time lag between our cruelty toward others and the implementation of justice on God’s part enables us to do even more mischief and abuse. People may convince themselves that God isn’t paying attention and they’re getting away with something.
But God is watching; He sees it all and He takes it all into account, and He will make it all right in the end.
God is the Helper of the fatherless, the Advocate for those who have no protector. We may think He’s forgotten us, too, when we’re victims of someone else’s abuse, but no, that’s not the way it works and that’s not what’s happening. You can trust Him even when bad things are done to you.
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the Throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
Revelation 20:12
Lord, you’ve given me time to repent, to leave off my sinful, selfish behavior. Thank You for Your patience with me. Thank You for the offer of forgiveness that’s still open for me. Don’t let me miss the opportunity! Amen.
