Knowing the Savior and Making Him Known

Sunday 6/29/2025 Devotional

I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.
Habakkuk 2:1

Habakkuk was praying for answers as he read the news. He saw violence in the streets, the perversion of justice in court, and wicked people in power, passing evil laws, and no remedy in sight.

As he prayed about all this, God showed him how the Babylonian empire was rising in power, and that it threatened to destroy his own nation, and he saw that God was going to allow this to happen because of their wickedness. But he couldn’t understand how God could allow such things. “Why, Lord? How can You allow this, God?”

So he decided to pray and listen, waiting for God to speak until he got God’s answer to his complaint.

When things happen that are beyond our control, when God allows things that we can’t understand, it’s time to follow Habakkuk’s example. Take your post on the watchtower of prayer, tell Him your questions, and wait. Listen, because God does have an answer for you. It might not be what you expect, but it will come.

Lord, there are things happening that I can’t understand. I don’t know why You allow them and I don’t know how to respond to them. You don’t owe me any explanations, but I want to know what I should do, how I should respond. Give me the understanding that I need, I pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
