My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.
Psalms 63:8
Another translation of this verse says, “my soul clings to You.” Either way makes sense. I have learned to cling to Jesus, to follow close behind Him, like a little child in a scary, dark place, clinging to his Dad’s coat-tails.
I’ve been to the scary, dark places. I’ve also discovered that sometimes when I think I’m in a perfectly “safe” place, where no danger is expected, the darkness and the temptations are as present as ever.
It pays to cling to Him, to follow Him, close. To keep my soul - mind, will, emotions - tuned to His voice, listening to the “radio,” remembering His instructions as I walk.
Then, I’m safe, because His right hand upholds me.
Lord Jesus, You know me; my soul wanders as I stumble along behind You. Keep me close today. Hold me up! Amen.
