I do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one…

Sanctified, “made holy” means “set apart for God.” Whatever or whoever is set aside for God is holy.

Jesus, praying for His disciples - including you and me - asked not that we be taken out of this world, but that we be kept from the power of Satan as we live here in this world.

Have you ever thought about yourself as being holy? It might seem like an odd idea, as you go about the sometimes messy, sometimes dirty, always very hands-on tasks of your daily life and work. A holy mechanic? A holy computer programmer? A holy diaper-changer? A holy cop?

The way that we are kept from the power of the evil one is by being set apart by God’s Word. As we live in that Word, our lives are made holy. We become people set apart for God.

Lord Jesus, keep the idea of holiness before me as I go about my work today. Set me apart for Yourself as I live in Your Word, today. Amen.
