Even in His time, there were people who refused to accept the opinions of Jesus and couldn’t understand why He called their behavior sin, or what He meant by many of the things He said.
Jesus explained to them that the fact that they couldn’t understand His words and rejected them was evidence of the fact that they didn’t belong to Him.
He explained that the sinful desires that guided their lives were the work of the devil, and that the excuses they made to justify their behavior were based on the devil’s lies. They were enslaved and blinded by Satan’s lies and deception.
Not everyone will understand or accept God’s Word. That’s to be expected; It’s always been that way. People still stumble over His words today. In fact, only God can give me the understanding I need to hear, believe, and follow.
Lord, I’m completely dependent on You to give me ears to hear and a heart that responds to Your Word. Clear my heart and mind of the devil’s lies, the world’s deception, and the perverse desires of my own sinful nature. Give me understanding, so that I can live, Lord Jesus. Amen.
