Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes; and I will keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law and observe it with my whole heart.
Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.
Psalm 119:33-35

I know that God’s way, His commandments, His law, are good and the right way to live. I know that life is far better if I live His way, and then there are the eternal rewards after this life, for those who live right.

But my own sinful nature is constantly demanding to be satisfied and my darkened understanding is constantly filling my mind with excuses for sin.

I need the Holy Spirit living in me to lead me, teach me, give me understanding and strengthen me to stay on the right path. I need Him to correct me when I step sideways and when I fall back into the old ways.

When I received Jesus into my heart, all that God is became mine (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and I became His. He has made His home with me and now He is teaching and correcting me, step by step.

When I read something in the Bible that I don’t understand, I can ask Him what it’s about, and he begins to give me lessons, apply it to my life, and guide me into a right understanding.

When things happen in this life that I don’t understand, I can do the same thing. Take it to Jesus, and listen. It might take time, due to my dullness of hearing, but understanding will come.

Lord, thank You for coming to me, for dwelling with me and in me. Give me understanding of Your Word, so that I can live, today! Amen.
