Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen…
Hebrews 11:1
Faith: being assured of the reality of the thing for which I live in hope; being convinced of the truth of something that I can’t see, something that I can’t necessarily prove scientifically, but I live guided by the assumption that it’s true.
Take creation, for instance. The Bible says, ”By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”
Hebrews 1:3
While there’s plenty of scientific evidence to support the theory of Creation by an Intelligent Designer, and there’s actually no evidence to disprove it, no one can actually prove or disprove it. Ultimately, either way, we have to take it on faith.
The Bible begins with the statement, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) It doesn’t try to prove it; it simply states it as a fact and expects me to believe it.
But the bottom line is that creation, the world, Science, and life itself, all make sense and have meaning if I believe this, and if I don’t believe it none of it makes any sense at all. It’s all chaos, meaningless, purposeless.
When the Bible presents Jesus, it says: “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...”
John 1:3, 14
God took on human form and became a man to redeem you and me in a particular moment of time, but He had been there all along. Time itself is a part of His creation; He stepped into His own creation and lived it, for you and me.
Again, the Bible simply states it, and expects me to believe it. But without it, life is meaningless, and with it, life, the universe, and everything suddenly not only make sense but have a purpose.
Lord Jesus, I am in awe as I think about these things. You make no attempt to prove them; You simply declare them to be so, and my own life makes sense only when I realize that they are true.
Thank You, Lord!
Amen.
