Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
Jeremiah 33:3
Jeremiah was imprisoned in Jerusalem for telling the people that they should surrender and not fight the army of Babylon. That sounded to Zedekiah the king like treason, even though he knew it was the Word of God, so he put Jeremiah in prison.
Jeremiah continued to pray and seek God while he waited for the end that he knew was coming, and now God began to reveal more encouraging things to him: things that would be fulfilled, some of them decades and some of them centuries later. He told him that after seventy years of captivity He would restore the people to their homeland, and He told him that the Messiah, the descendant of David, would come and reign over His people forever.
Thus says the Lord: If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, then also My covenant with David My servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and My covenant with the Levitical priests My ministers.”
Jeremiah 33:20-21
These promises only make sense when you know how they were fulfilled: that Jesus, the promised Son of David, is the Savior whom God sent, and that He reigns forever in the hearts of His people. These are some of the great and hidden things that God revealed to His faithful prophet Jeremiah.
If you know these things, you can be in the same kind of relationship that Jeremiah enjoyed with God. You can call to Him and He will answer you and show you the things you need to see. He still speaks to those who seek Him.
Lord, open the eyes and ears of my heart, to listen and be led by Your Spirit in whatever circumstances I find myself today. I’m listening.
